The main idea being tested is how CPR should balance chest compressions with breaths to keep blood flowing and oxygenating the body. For adults, the standard approach is 30 chest compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths, then repeat. This 30:2 pattern keeps perfusion high by delivering rapid compressions while still providing enough oxygen through breaths without making long interruptions. If you go with more or fewer breaths between sets, you either interrupt chest compressions too often or deprive the patient of oxygen, which can lower the chances of a successful resuscitation. The typical pace is about 100–120 compressions per minute, with each breath lasting about a second.
